Wyspa is a state of continual relationship. It is a place of a permanent situation, of many situations, numerous situations, changing situations, independent of and seemingly unconnected with one another. Yet situations that constitute a certain whole, and ultimately create the state that is Wyspa.
Wyspa is therefore a possibility for people, phenomena and ideas to meet.
Let us imagine a place — an island, on which a group of people suddenly appears...
If the island is a board, the people on it are players. Anything can be the subject, while a goal as such does not exist: the goal is participation in the game itself. Here even the rules can change, and the whole — the island — exists only thanks to, for and through the participants. Players can use anything to express their opinion, sensitivity, awareness, idea, spirit. On the island there are initiators who bring climatic conditions, sustaining or extinguishing the fire of the game.
It is essential to become aware of one’s position as a player. A position of agency and cognition, but above all to become aware of the relationship necessary for the existence of internal tension within the game. It is therefore important to become aware that one is not a player and consequently is something more, and yet the game participates in whoever participates in it. Then, seeing oneself as a pawn in one’s own hands, one can operate it freely, and yet, taking into account belonging and the temporal weight necessary for the game, every operation happens for real and is connected with building oneself. For every act carried out on the island translates into the shape of the inner life of the person who performs it. Wyspa is a training ground and a construction site. It is this and that simultaneously, but also this or that at the same time. It is therefore what becomes, and so does not simply exist, but happens, continually remaining “Wyspa”. Wyspa is the breath of those who constitute it. Wyspa can be called an initiative or an undertaking, and Wyspa is that; it is also something else, which is why it continually remains Wyspa.
Above all, Kalendarz Wyspa means that everything initiated on it takes place in a strict order. It is an order based on the Fibonacci Sequence ( http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ci%C4%85g_Fibonacciego .The terms of the Fibonacci sequence are:
0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987, 1597, 2584, 4181; the key is the sum of the last two numbers, and they refer to how many days apart successive events take place), though it also contains a certain event — a focal point based on the golden ratio. This division results from the framework that inspired Wyspa, namely the boundaries of the second semester of the academic year at ASP, which is why the end of the academic year closes or changes it.
Wyspa is also a place where something can continually happen. Wyspa has its own voice, which continually speaks. Wyspa’s voice consists of those who know about Wyspa and say something within its horizon. Wyspa’s horizon is the field of actions and comments, or the practical and theoretical spheres, although these two also exist interchangeably in a sense. The practical is the sphere of actions, that is, specific activities, while the theoretical is the sphere of what is said about those actions, or about art in general. The practical, therefore, is — the grounds of the Faculty of Media Art and Scenography at ASP in Warsaw, the island-room and other places; the theoretical, meanwhile — the newspaper, leaflets, dialogues, blog, forums.
Wyspa is above all a creative state, the state in which you want, must or need to create. Yet this is not blind creativity, because it is always directed, since only through this can it be understood. Wyspa is open to everyone who finds their way to it. Wyspa was also an alternative subject of study and a space that allowed those without a voice to direct their energy in a healthy way, that is, those unable to gain acceptance for expressing themselves (their own exhibitions, dialogue with other creators, alternative creative actions, media such as music and writing generally, and a range of other aspects and gaps that Wyspa filled). At present it has ceased to be a subject on a study programme and has become a subject of study.
Wyspa is alive and well, precisely thanks to those who nurture it and the beauty of Sacred Geometry, on which it is based.
Wyspa welcomes everyone who wants to contribute something to it, or at least talk to it, for Wyspa is a state that, being alive, is a self-aware and transmuting intelligent being.
