Short bio
Oskar Chmioła (b. 1987 in Lublin; lives and works in Szczecin, Poland) is a visual and performance artist and the originator of Psychoperformance. His practice spans performance, interactive installation, video, sound, coding and site-responsive, process-based work. He explores agency, perception, the body, uncertainty, technology and social mechanisms of normalisation. He is the author of the Performative Cinema Manifesto, Art after AI and the multi-volume Compendium of Psychoperformance. In 2026 he presented work at the Institute of Cybernetics of Art in Gdańsk, performed within an Open Group action at Contexts and led a workshop at Sanatorium of Sound in Sokołowsko.

Oskar Chmioła (b. 1987 in Lublin; based in Szczecin since 2014) is a Polish visual and performance artist. His practice spans performance, Psychoperformance, interactive installation, video, sound, coding and site-responsive, process-based work. He selects each medium in relation to the subject, place and situation, treating the artwork as a device for activating experience, relations and change.
His work examines individual agency, embodiment, perception, uncertainty, technology, social norms and the tension between autonomy and adaptation. He develops author-originated concepts and formats including Psychoperformance, Perfotherapy, Performative Communication, IndividuAction, Performative Cinema, Performance Tourism and SpaceTime Performance.
In 2026 he presented the interactive installation Anatomy of Uncertainty in the group exhibition ART DESTINATIONS. APO-THEO-SUS at the Institute of Cybernetics of Art and Spiż 7 Gallery in Gdańsk. In Sokołowsko he performed within Open Group’s PROTEST #3 during the Contexts Festival of Ephemeral Art and later led Asymptote, a Psychoperformance workshop at Sanatorium of Sound. In London he realised the independent public, site-specific Psychoperformance Restoring the Alternative.
Chmioła combines his artistic practice with inclusive, educational and art-therapeutic work. He designs educational aids for autistic people, directs stage actions with neurodivergent participants and coordinates the Independent Atoms project. He works with the In Situ Contemporary Art Foundation as an accessibility consultant.
